Dunbar Baptist Church What We Believe

WHAT WE BELIEVE

at DUNBAR BAPTIST CHURCH

OUR BELIEFS

The Bible
We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God. Scripture is true, trustworthy, and without error, serving as the ultimate authority for faith, doctrine, and daily Christian living. We believe God has faithfully preserved His Word and value the Authorized King James Version for English-speaking believers.

God
We believe there is one true God who eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal in nature, power, glory, and perfection, yet together are one God.

Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who came to earth in human flesh through the virgin birth. He lived a sinless life and willingly gave Himself on the cross as the sacrifice for our sins.
We believe He physically rose again from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and now serves as our Advocate and High Priest at the right hand of God.

The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts people of sin and draws them toward salvation through Christ. He indwells every believer, provides spiritual understanding, and equips Christians for godly living and service.
We also believe God gives spiritual gifts to believers for the strengthening and ministry of the local church.

Satan
We believe Satan is a real being who opposes God and seeks to deceive mankind. He is the source of sin and rebellion against God and will ultimately face eternal judgment.

Humanity and Sin
We believe mankind was created in the image of God, but through sin became separated from Him. Because of Adam’s fall, all people are born with a sinful nature and are unable to save themselves apart from God’s grace.

Salvation
We believe salvation is offered freely by God through grace and is received by faith in Jesus Christ alone. Christ shed His blood on the cross to provide forgiveness of sins and eternal life for all who believe in Him.
We believe salvation is available to every person who places their trust in Christ. New birth through faith in Jesus brings forgiveness, spiritual renewal, and everlasting life.
We believe salvation cannot be earned through good works, religion, or personal effort, but comes only through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Repentance and Faith
We believe true salvation involves repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. When a person recognizes their need for forgiveness and trusts Christ as Savior, they receive eternal life and become a new creation in Him.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
We believe Biblical baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is a public testimony of faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We believe the Lord’s Supper is a memorial ordinance given to the church to remember Christ’s sacrifice and should be observed with reverence and self-examination.
